Entering the new phase of Lagrange Mission at HIMAC Japan
In October 2019, RADEC has participated in performance tests of the Lagrange, Radiation Monitor, Heavy Ion Telescope (HIT) at HIMAC facility located at National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS, Chiba, Japan). Radiation Monitor as one of the in-situ instruments of the ESA Lagrange Mission is responsible for monitoring radiation storms (solar energetic particle events) as it is crucial, and can disrupt and damage spacecraft systems. Higher energy particles can also affect aircraft and ground systems.
The aims of the experiment were to proof the instrument energetic resolution, ability to distinguish heavy ions (He, C, N, O, Fe) and the searching for optimal triggering settings.
